Goshobessho

Arima Onsen / Hyogo

BLJ Tips & Insights
Nestled inside a secluded 1,400 square meter forest reserve in Japan’s oldest hot spring village, Goshobessho is an exclusive villa retreat managed by the historic custodians of Tosen Goshoboh, a legendary ryokan dating back to 1191. Occupying the historic grounds of a Meiji-era hotel that once catered to foreign diplomats arriving at Kobe Port, the property seamlessly fuses European country villa architecture with traditional Japanese joinery under the creative direction of artist and designer Hirosuke Watanuki. The retreat offers just ten expansive suite villas, each spanning over 100 square meters with private sunrooms and gardens. Every villa features its own deep soaking bath piped directly with Arima’s famous mineral-dense Kinsen - Golden Spring thermal waters, as well as an innovative low-temperature thermal mist sauna designed for gentle, deep-body relaxation. Dining takes place at the forest-facing restaurant, where guests savor Yamaga Kaiseki, a mountain-style multi-course cuisine highlighting prime Kobe beef grilled over charcoal, wild mountain vegetables, and fresh seafood sourced daily from the nearby ports of Akashi and Awaji Island.
